POSTPONED 'TIL 11/22 DUE TO RAIN ;(

This year we're moving things over to Panama 66. Yep, we'll start from P66, ride 25+ miles up to Alpine and then back to P66. At the end of the ride we will taste at least all of the above mentioned beers with Pat and Val. All riders will be treated to food, commemorative gifts and a truly amazing time. LA VIDA VEGAN: SUMMER OF '66

Thanks to Odette and San Diego Magazine for taking notice of just how seriously we take our food. We may have a tiny kitchen back there, but Chef Sharon and crew work some serious magic back there. We're also proud of them and we're proud to have some many amazingly delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu. Everything in moderation. Everything in season.

Young Lion Den heads to Panama 66

BIG NEWS ALERT: Speaking of Gilbert Castellanos, he's been lauded for his Young Lion Series that has heretofore happened at Croce's, but it's coming to Panama 66 in JULY! This is a super program that Gilbert Castellanos created for mentoring young Jazz musicians (who think about-can't play most "bars" or jazz clubs because of their under 21 status.) We are so very proud to be hosting this program, along with the San Diego Museum of Art and Gilbert. More info to come soon!
Here is a little background on what the program is about:

Early Closure on The 4th of July

On the 4th of July we will be closing early.
Kitchen will close at 3pm.
Bar will close at 5pm.

This Friday, June 26 is DANNY GREEN from 6-8pm. Danny always gets a lovely crowd for his very swinging jazz trio.

This Saturday, June 27 is a BIG ONE: We have INSURGENTE BEER from Tijuana, a Baja-inspired menu, and GILBERT CASTELLANOS & HIS LATIN JAZZ BAND playing from 6-7:45pm. We are seriously excited about this one folks: Insurgente hasn't done a lot of showcases on this side of the border. We will have six of their awesome beers ON DRAFT: Lupulosa, the Coffee Lupulosa, Tiniebla Witbier, a Nocturnal Black IPA and a Pale and Brown Ale. The menu will feature Baja-inspired TACOS! Pulpo people, pulpo!

Next WEEKEND @Panama 66:
Thursday, July 2 features The Chris Taylor Quartet, 6-8pm
Friday, July 3 features the lovely Miss Erika Davies, 6-8pm
Saturday, July 4 we are OPEN for BRUNCH at 10am (and we close at 5pm)

New Grass Policy

We have a little story to share, we hope you'll read ahead. When we took over the Panama 66 space in the May S. Marcy Sculpture Garden at the San Diego Museum of Art we were (and still are!) beyond excited about the potential and the possibilities. Fast forward almost 11 months later and it's been a crazy, fun ride thus far. Some of our most favorite guests have come up to us to tell us they've never spent so much time at this glorious park until we were there, that they're excited to have other food options in the Park, that they've now become Members of the Museum (and not just because of the 10% discount at the restaurant) and of course, to tell us they love picnic-ing in the Sculpture Garden.

But the Sculpture Garden is in fact, an ART GALLERY, part of the San Diego Museum of Art. And the reality is, it's been so popular that people have forgotten that fact. And the next thing ya' know there are kids climbing the (rare, expensive) sculptures, folks throwing frisbees and people leaving behind loads of trash. Not exactly Gallery Rules!

So THE NEW RULES, which we have crafted in conjunction with the San Diego Museum of Art, include no balls, no frisbees, no picnics, and no eating. We know the last one will bum some of you out- it's been a blast taking your food from Panama 66 out to a blanket and enjoying the San Diego sunshine. But it's a Gallery space, not an open park. And remember, our whole restaurant is out in the sunshine! We have no roof! (As was painfully obvious during that last, much-needed rain storm.)

Here's the SILVER LINING: YOU CAN STILL TAKE YOUR BEVERAGES OUT THERE. As in your local beer, your California wine, your superb cocktails. Just please, clean up after yourself ;)

So to recap, NEW RULES:

* No balls, no frisbees
* No climbing the sculptures (not even for selfies)
* Keep an eye on your children (don't let them climb sculptures and hide in the bushes)
* No food delivery from Panama 66, No outside Food either, just no more food.
* Drinks ARE allowed, even alcoholic ones (but don't set them down on sculptures and don't bring in outside alcohol)
* Clean up after yourself please

We know, it's a bummer to be able to do something and then not be able to do it. Especially fun things. But the Sculpture Garden isn't a Balboa Park public lawn. It's a Gallery Space. But we said that already so you get it. And thank you.

Plaza de Panama Activation & Dualing Pistils

The new Plaza de Panama in Balboa Park Activation kicks off tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22, from 12 noon to 4pm. Mayor Kevin Faulconer to unveil the project which will include outdoor living area and food trucks. We'll be open from 11am-10pm Tuesday.

There's lots happening this weekend.
• Thursday & Friday we will be closed for Art Alive.
• Saturday we're re-open at 10am for brunch and then at 6pm we'll tap the new Automatic Brewing Co / Lost Abbey collaboration "Dualing Pistils."
Lost Abbey Brewing Company, long-time supporter of The San Diego Museum of Art and Automatic Brewing Co. in Normal Heights, have teamed up to brew a special Tangerine Belgian-Style Blond Ale for Art Alive 2015. This is the 3rd in a series of AutomaticBrewing Co collaborations in honor of The Balboa Park Centennial Celebration. Organic Malts, Belgian Yeast, new-world & noble hop varieties, and lots of local Organic Tangerines from Rancho J'Balie were used to make a beer that celebrates the Spring season and the Arts! The result is a beer that is refreshing & light on the palate, but complex and engaging. Expect flavors of a Saison; a firm hop profile, with notes of Tangerine, Spice, Honey & Apricot. 7.6% abv.
Since our 2 breweries worked together to brew this beer for the floral-focused Art Alive exhibition, we're calling it "Dualing Pistils".
This Saturday at 6pm Panama 66 will tap Automatic/Lost Abbey Dualing Pistils as well as, Lost Abbey Devotion, Cuvee De Tomme, Angels Share, Red Poppy, Serpents Stout, Avant Garde and Red Barn. We'll also feature The Bedbreakers (San Diego, CA) from 7-9pm to keep the down home local vibe going.

VALENTINE'S DAY DINNER & TOUR PACKAGE

Yeah, dinner at a fancy restaurant is lovely and all, but it's also a damn cliche. We have another idea for you, and frankly we think it's far more romantic.

How does a picnic under the stars sound?

What about when it's paired with an extra special after-hours tour of works themed around love from the Permanent Collection?

Did we mention there will be live & lovely music by the swimmingly talented Miss Erika Davies from 6-8pm?

That's exactly what we are doing February 14th. And you can too, but tickets are limited.

Here is the deal:

You choose from the following to make up your customized Picnic Boxes:

1. SANDWICHES (choose 2)
a. Turkey & Brie
b. Ham & Swiss
c. Hummus Sandwich (vegan)
d. Butternut Squash Sandwich (vegan)

2. NIBBLES (choose 1)
a. Cheese Plate
b. Veg Plate (vegan)

3. BEVERAGES (choose 1)
a. Francis Coppola Frizzante Gia Chardonnay California (a light & fruity bubbly!) (750ml bottle)
b. Tablas Creek Patelin de Rouge (a gorgeous red Rhone blend) (750ml carafe)
c. Macrostie Chardonnay (A bright and smooth white wine) (750ml carafe)
d. New English Pure & Simple IPA (A local West Coast hoppy IPA) (64 oz growler)
e. Benchmark Blonde (an easy drinking and low alcohol beer) (64 oz growler)

And then we throw in some truffles!

You can take the box with a blanket (we have 'em) and your bottle to the grass for a picnic, or grab a table.  You can eat before or after your Tour. You do have to book a specific time for your Tour...

Here is HOW you Order:

1. You book your tour and dinner through the Museum's website, here: http://www.sdmart.org/calendar/valentines-day-dinner-and-tour-package

*You must book through the Museum so they can reserve, track and limit the tours.

2. And then you drop us a note that says "Booked my tour, I would like the following sandwiches, nibbles and the bottle of _________"
Send that note to clea@blindladyalehouse.com

Cost is $80 and includes tax but not a tip. And that covers the food package, the bottle of your choice, AND the romantic tour of the Museum.

Once in a lifetime really.

This is honestly the kind of stuff we envisioned when we took over the Sculpture Garden space at the San Diego Museum of Art. We are so happy to bring this incredible night to you. Questions? Email us at clea@blindladyalehouse.com
